So I applied for Portland Open Studios last February at the urging of my friend Jane, not really knowing what it would be like. I want to report after the first weekend, that it was wonderful to have a couple of hundred people parade through my studio asking all sorts of questions that I would never had thought of. I loved meeting other artists, and selling my work directly to the buyer. Most artists work in solitude, mining our lives and minds for images and ideas. Sharing what we fine and create is a form of completion of that process. There is one more weekend to go. I will be sitting in my studio 10 am-5 pm this coming Saturday and Sunday demonstrating how to paint with watercolor on top of encaustic wax medium. I will also be giving away copies of my book Strong Hearts, Inspired Minds: 21 artists who are mothers tell their stories.
