As I wind down on my studio immersion this month, I find myself in one of the hardest parts of my process: those last little changes that will either rescue a piece or destroy it. Ok it's not that dramatic really, but it feels that way. Can I risk changing a shape or mark or colors that is ok but maybe is causing the work to be less than great? Will just a small addition turn the whole thing around. In this painting I was struggling with the large stone in the foreground. The shadows didn't make sense but after making a small change it suddenly popped into place. I am now working on the lower left corner which may need to be stronger in order to balance the large stone. Oh for the freedom of a blank canvas!
